Save the Date for the Kick-Off Talk: October 18th

Professor Sharpe will join us via Zoom for a virtual Kick-Off Talk, at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 18, 2020.  In keeping with our theme of Reflecting on Narratives Together, he plans to share remarks on the theme and reading selections but also to invite discussion and Q&A.  Details about logistics will be circulated to book club members closer to the date.

Kickoff Talk by Prof. Weinberg and Prof. Geraci

We are delighted that both Professor Weinberg and Professor Geraci will give our faculty talk on Sunday, October 14th from 3:30 – 5 p.m. The talk will be held at Walter Reed Community Center, Multipurpose Rooms A & B, at 2909 16th St S, Arlington, VA, 22204.   Please click here to register so we can plan how many chairs to set up and an appropriate amount of refreshments, although you are welcome to come even if you do not register. Light refreshments will be available at 3:30 p.m., and the talk will begin at 4 p.m.

If you would like to join a small group dinner after the talk with our two professors, please email Julia (Cohen) Judish ’89 at julia.judish@alum.swarthmore.edu.   We are tentatively planning to hold the dinner at Rus Uz, a Russian restaurant in Arlington about a 10-minute drive from the talk location.

Professor Dorsey’s Kickoff Talk

You can register for Professor Allison Dorsey’s kickoff talk at EventBrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/professor-dorseys-kickoff-talk-tickets-38913616675.  The talk will be held in the downstairs Youth Area of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, at 1500 N. Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22207, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 28th. Free parking is available in a lot across 16th St. from the church at Glebe & 16th Street North in spaces closer to church, as well as on side streets. The church is a 15-minute walk from the Ballston Metro, on the Orange and Silver lines. Light refreshments will be available at 3:30 p.m; the talk begins at 4 p.m. Please register so we can plan how many chairs to set up and an appropriate amount of refreshments, although you are welcome to come even if you do not register.
